The 2021 Faugères is a soft, open-knit, classy Saint-Émilion. A healthy dollop of Cabernet Franc adds aromatic presence. All the elements are so well balanced. Lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and mocha build into the textured, beautifully persistent finish.

A nice touch of fine reduction that protects the fruit and almost mingles with the oak spices, giving this a dusty feel with dulce de leche, blackberries, cassis and graphite. A crunchy, medium-bodied palate with fresh, juicy tannins and a firm, lively finish. Long, elegant and fluid. A very good expression from this lighter vintage

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Elegant nose with quite closed character, fruit developing slowly, in the background discreet spiciness. On the palate elegant with freshness, medium bodied with convincing length. Mouth-watering wine, to be observed.

Founded in 1618, this estate is on the slopes to the east of Saint-Émilion. This latest release, with its toast and red-cherry aromas, is densely structured. Blackberry fruits align with the tannins and a succulent texture to give balance, ripeness and fine potential.

Decanter

Bright and mineral, this has a good combination of creamy but still juicy strawberry and raspberry fruit with wet stone salinity on the palate, the two playing a push-pull for dominance but supported by fine, quite direct tannins. I like the clarity here, there's no frills or hiding and I like the classic nature of it.
